Players Retreat & NC State — A 75-Year Tradition
There is no better backdrop for a Wolfpack gathering than Players Retreat. Located just minutes from campus at 105 Oberlin Road, Players Retreat has served as the unofficial “living room of the Wolfpack” since 1951.
For over seven decades, generations of NC State students, faculty, athletes, and alumni have gathered here to celebrate victories, dissect game film, and catch up over legendary burgers. The wood-paneled walls tell the story of Wolfpack sports history—lined with classic team photos dating back to the days of leather football helmets. Even PR proprietor Richard “Gus” Gusler started working here as an NC State senior back in 1971. When you are here, you aren’t just visiting a local favorite—you’re stepping into a piece of NC State history.
