The LGBTQIA+ Sandwich: Small Bites, Big Impact 🏳️🌈🥪
If you came into the Players Retreat this June, you probably smelled the bacon, saw the avocado, and noticed a whole lot of extra love in the room. To celebrate Pride Month, we brought back a legendary crowd-favorite: The LGBTQIA+ Sandwich (Lettuce, Guacamole, Bacon, Tomato, Queso Fresco… Is an A+ Sandwich! 😉).
At Players Retreat, we are fiercely proud of a lot of things—our kitchen crew, our historic Raleigh roots, and our scratch-made comfort food. But nothing makes us prouder than being a safe, welcoming space for everyone since 1951. It’s exactly why our Pride Flag flies out front 365 days a year. We want you to know you belong here, exactly as you are, whether it’s June or January.
But this past month, our incredible community took that welcoming spirit and turned it into some serious action.
Let’s Talk Numbers (And They Are Spectacular)
We promised to donate 100% of net the sales from the LGBTQIA+ sandwich to Equality NC to support their vital work for equality and representation across North Carolina. Boy, did you all deliver.
You didn’t just eat sandwiches; you crushed records. Together, we sold 332 sandwiches in a single month!
When you strip away the taxes, comps, and food costs, the true net proceeds came out to over $4,400. But because we love a grand gesture—and because the work Equality NC does is so important—we are rounding that number right up to the next hundred.
📢 The Grand Total: $4,500 Donated directly to Equality NC!
Keeping the Spirit Alive All Year

While the sandwich might be taking a breather from the menu until next year, the heart behind it never stops beating at 105 Oberlin Rd.
Thank you to every single person who ordered a sandwich, shared a post, or brought a friend by this June. You proved that when the PR community comes together, we can do some pretty delicious good for our state.
Come by soon, grab a cold drink, wave to the flag, and let’s keep that welcoming PR spirit going strong all year long! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
About Equality NC
Equality North Carolina (ENC) is the nation’s oldest statewide organization committed to securing rights and protections for the LGBTQ community. They aim to ensure that every North Carolinian sees themselves reflected in this movement, working together to create a safer, more equitable world for all marginalized individuals.
Their long-term goal is to achieve comprehensive statewide nondiscrimination protections based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression across housing, employment, public accommodations, credit, insurance, and education—without exemptions that single out LGBTQ people.
